Individual Sports Person of the Year

Jenni Mumm is nominated as the NZ Army Individual Sports Person of the Year, as a result of the following notable achievements within the nomination period and for her continued pursuit of excellence as a player in the NZ Army, NZDF and Canterbury Red Hawks Women's Softball teams.

The following is a list of her achievements for the period 1 January - 31 December 2011:

  1. In February 2011, at the 2010/11 NZDF Inter-Service tournament hosted by Navy, Philomel, the Army Women's Team went through the tournament unbeaten. Mrs Mumm's performance on the pitching mound (pitching every game), and with the bat was nothing short of outstanding, leading her team to victory. Mrs Mumm was awarded the "Top Pitcher" and the prestigious "MVP" trophies. Unfortunately, an on-going shoulder problem, a result of years of pitching, Mrs Mumm was unavailable for NZDF Women's Team. Her next appointment was with a surgeon, to repair her golden pitching shoulder.

  2. In November 2011, The NZDF Inter-Service tournament was hosted by the Australian Defence Force in Melbourne. Mrs Mumm, back from shoulder surgery, pitched her team to Inter-Services victory in a dominating team performance. Mrs Mumm was award the NZDF "Top Women's Pitcher" and was selected to represent the NZDF in the test match against the ADF. She was also selected into the NZDF team for the National Club Championships to be held in March 2012.

  3. Of special note was her achievement at the Jubilee Cup with the Canterbury Women's Team in December 2011. Mrs Mumm competed against current national representatives in one of the country's toughest tournaments. Mrs Mumm showed her class by having the lowest earned run average, which earned the veteran the "Top Pitcher and "MVP" awards. This achievement was a feather in her cap and will set her up for higher honours in the game. As a result of her performances, Mrs Mumm has been named in the Canterbury Red Hawkes Team who will compete at the National Fastpitch Champiohsips at Lower Hutt from 15-19 February 2012.

  4. Mrs Mumm is highly regarded as the best female player in the NZDF and arguably the best Defence Force female player to have graced the diamond. Her continued selection for the NZ Army, NZDF and Canterbury women's sides is an example of that.

  5. Mrs Mumm has had great success as a player, numerous personal achievements and made a continued contribution to the development of the women's game in the NZ Army. Mrs Mumm is a worthy nominee for the NZ Army Individual Sports Person of the Year.
