Statistician (Scorer)
Mrs Kareko holds a New Zealand Scorers Badge (Grade 5), a qualification gained through Softball NZ in 2007/08 season. She is currently on the "active grading list" and has the ambition to progress to Grade 7 qualification, the highest possible grading in Softball.
Mrs Kareko started her scoring apprenticeship in 1994 in the Tauranga Region. She has supported Inter-Services tournaments from 1999 until the present day. She has also supported the Inter-Regional Tournament since it was reinstated in 2002. She has also held the appointment of the tournament Chief Scorer for the Inter-Regional Tournament since 2010. The appointment requires pre-tournament statistician organization to ensure sufficient scorer support is provided to make for a successful tournament. In 2004 and 2007, Marion toured Australia with the Army Women's Softball Team as the statistician.
During her time as a scorer, Marion has attended a wide variety of New Zealand National Tournaments, such as the men's and women's Open Club Championships, Under 19 Boy's and Under 15 Girl's Tournaments. During the 2007/08 season, Marion was appointed the Chief Scorer at an Under 15 girl's National Tournament in Tauranga, and she continues to hold the appointment.
Mrs Kareko's 12 years of dedicated and loyal service to Army softball as a scorer, is outstanding.
Sports Administration
Mrs Kareko carried out the scorer administration tasks for the teams she was involved with at Inter-Regional and Inter-Services level. A task that often requires frantic work behind the scenes at the completion of a tournament to determine individual and team prizes and awards.
Over the years, Mrs Kareko has given an astounding amount of her personal time and commitment to softball tournaments in the NZDF. Her work behind the scenes at tournaments is tireless, ensuring every tournament's official administration is executed to the highest level.
She is not only an asset to Army and Defence force softball, but to the National softball community.
As a result of her exemplary 12 years service to Army, NZDF and community softball, as a player and official, Mrs Kareko is a worthy nominee for the Army Pocket for Administration.
